When people look to die-cast fishing reels, they are typically simply looking for a no-frills, low cost way to get a reel on their rod. That's not the case with the Lamson Liquid. When creating Liquid, Waterworks-Lamson concentrated only on the benefits and advantages of the pressure-casting technique, while still keeping the price as low as possible.
Casting allows you to do structural feats that are impossible to achieve with machining. This translates to beautiful design and strength enhancing features like full-radiused compound curves and near zero-radius inside corners. Lamson even ensures a precision fit and finish by taking the time to go back and machine the cast part in critical areas, letting you eat a whole lot of that proverbial cake!
When designing this generation of the Liquid reel, Waterworks took a wholistic view of the production process as well. They asked the tough questions like "How much of a reel at this price point can actually be made in the US?" Turns out, you can accomplish a great deal with a little extra effort. Liquid's castings are imported, but then CNC-machined in the US in those areas critical to the drag system and connection areas.
All the components are assembled in Boise, ID, by the same people that assemble their top-tier reels. No other fly fishing reel manufacturer can tout this much "Made-in-USA" assembly and quality inspection at the $100 price range.
