We've tried a lot of gaiters at basin + bend. Kahtoola is the brand we keep coming back to — and the one we recommend without hesitation when customers ask what to put on their feet for hiking, trail running, or anything in between. The engineering is genuinely better: a 3D Performance Fit that actually seals against your footwear, a side zipper that doesn't dig into your foot, and a DuraLink® instep strap with a 1,000-mile warranty that means exactly what it says.
We carry two models — the RENAgaiter and the LEVAgaiter GTX — because they solve two different problems. Here's how to choose.
Built from stretch-woven recycled nylon that's 60% thicker than standard trail gaiters, the RENAgaiter is the pick for demanding terrain — rocky scrambles, off-trail use, brushy approaches, and any situation where you need a gaiter that can take a beating. The Aegis® rock guard reinforces the instep strap connection points where gaiters typically fail first. PFAS-free DWR coating handles light rain and mud. Available in Low (5.5") and Mid (9") heights.
When the trail gets wet and you need genuine waterproof protection without the weight, the LEVAgaiter GTX is the answer. Three-layer GORE-TEX® construction keeps water out while staying breathable, and the YKK AquaGuard® coil zipper maintains a watertight seal. At under 5 oz per pair, it's the lightest GORE-TEX gaiter we've found. Available in Mid and Tall (13.5") heights for snowshoeing, winter hiking, and wet-weather approaches.
