Technologies built into Scientific Anglers fly lines

Scientific Anglers’ patented dry-slick technology provides continual line slickness, allowing the line to shoot farther as it moves through the guides. Lines with AST easily shed dirt, algae, and other parasitic drag particles, allowing lines to cast farther, float higher, and stay cleaner than traditional lines.

The Audible Reference Point is the inverse of the Tactile Reference Point. It’s an embossed section of line where the head meets the running line, allowing you to hear that transition as you strip in line. Available on our Spey Lite collection.

A new formulation of our patented dry-slick technology provides continual line slickness over the lifetime of the line. Up to 50% slicker than the original AST and 200% more durable than the competition. Fly lines with AST Plus cast farther, float higher, and stay cleaner than any other lines ever built.

Our Camo technology creates a stealthy blend of muted colors on fly lines, providing much-needed stealth for wary fish, low-water situations, and any time an additional bit of deception is necessary.

Featuring microreplication technology, the SA Floating Texture is a radical modification of typically smooth-surfaced fly lines. Its microtextured surface traps air to provide superior shootability and flotation while eliminating line flash and vastly reducing friction. Lines sit higher in the water, offering less drag and water spray, as well as easier mending, roll casting, and pick-ups.

Utilizing a unique blend of microballoons, we have developed a fly-line tip section that floats twice as high as a standard line. The tip section will be floating higher with our Dry Tip Technology, which means less drag from the front of the line and more positive hook-ups.

Meet the Scientific Anglers Line Identification System. SA•ID is an innovative line-marking system allowing you to identify your lines at a glance. Wonder if a shooting head is 200 grain or a 300? Just look at the SAID. The SA•ID can be found on the first 1-2 feet of the tip section of your line.

scientific-anglers-seamless-density-icon_guetzli.jpg

Our Seamless Density technology is a gradual mixing of densities that provides a smooth transition between disparate densities, providing less hinging and a straight-line connection to the fly as it sinks.

scientific-anglers-st-plus-shooting-technology-plus-icon_guetzli.jpg

Much like our patented Advanced Shooting Technology, the ST+ is an integrated slickness additive built into the coatings of our fly lines, providing continual line slickness as the coating continues to wear. The ST+ additive enhances the slickness of fly lines even more than AST, and lines with ST+ shoot farther and float higher than any lines ever have before.

The Scientific Anglers Shooting Texture features precisely replicated hemispherical divots, similar to those found on a golf ball’s surface. This evolution of our texturing technology has less texture on its surface so it feels like a traditional fly line but performs with the benefits of texturing. The result is a line that lasts longer, floats higher, casts easier, and, most importantly, fishes better.

scientific-anglers-sonar-sinking-technology-icon_guetzli.jpg

For every one fish eating on top, there are ten feeding beneath it. Our SONAR sinking technology takes flies to where the fish are: beneath the surface. Using proprietary tungsten formulations and unique tapering, the SONAR sinking technology gets flies down, and keeps them there.

scientific-anglers-trp-tactile-reference-point-icon_guetzli.jpg

The Tactile Reference Point is a non embossed section of line where the end of the head meets the running line. This allows you to feel—and hear—the transition from our textured technologies.

scientific-anglers-tropi-core-technology-icon_guetzli.jpg

Tropical environments are not only taxing on the angler but can also be taxing on a fly line. Lines with Tropi-Core™ technology can withstand the hottest boat decks and warmest water environments. Combine the Tropi-Core™ technology with our proprietary hard saltwater coating and
species-specific tapers, and you have the best in saltwater fly-line technology.

scientific-anglers-welded-loop-icon_guetzli.jpg

Exceptionally slick and strong, our Welded Loops produce smoother casts and easier turnover with a seamless fly-line-to-loop transition, making for softer landings and cleaner pickups. The sleek design also maintains buoyancy for improved fly-line flotation and enables quicker connections between fly line and leaders or fly line and backing.

scientific-anglers-100-pound-core-icon_guetzli.jpg

In the development of lines that could stand up against fish such as arapaima or giant trevally, we realized the first thing we had to do was strengthen the core. And strengthen it we did. Lines featuring our 100-lb. core have a super-strong single-strand monofilament core designed to handle the hottest environments and the biggest fish.
